“Buongiorno” or Good Morning in Italian! Do the names Padroni, Baseggio, Guenzi, Rizzolo, DeSoto and Campanella sound familiar? These are just a few of the familiar family names of Italian immigrants that made their way to Logan County during the past 120 years. Many of these immigrants not only helped to settle the northeast Colorado plains, but their descendents continue to be active community members today. Join us for History Café on Wednesday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m. as we learn some fascinating stories about the large population of Italian Immigrants who settled in Logan County. Many Italian immigrants traveled first to the mountain areas in search of silver and gold and later made their way to the farm life on the Northeast Colorado Plains. Others were in search of land and opportunities that were offered because of the Homestead Act. And one particular Italian immigrant became a U.S. citizen and Sterling businessman in a very unlikely way following World War II. Our past History Café immigration topics have included the Germans from Russia, the Japanese immigrants and the Irish immigrants; we hope you will plan on being with us for our April History Café to learn about another group of settlers and homesteaders who helped to shape Logan County. Please call the museum at 522-3895 and let us know if you plan to attend.
